Better Living for Texans

Over twenty-eight years ago, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service entered into new partnerships with USDA’S Food and Nutrition Service and Texas Health and Human Service Commission to deliver SNAP-Ed in counties across Texas.

Through the Better Living for Texans (BLT) program, agents and educators have engaged, educated, and empowered millions of people to successfully implement practices on nutrition, gardening, and physical activity into their lives! Yet, many individuals of all ages continue to struggle with food insecurity and adequate access to nutritious meal options which support active, healthy lives.

This session will help participants gain a better understanding of the relationship between poverty and hunger, acknowledge the impact food insecurity has on health outcomes, as well as recognize the dire importance of a healthy diet for optimal community food security. During this session, the BLT State office team will:

  • Explore the barriers to food insecurity through the Community Food Experience, a discussion-based activity
  • Identify opportunities to best tell the BLT/SNAP-Ed success stories happening in your communities
  • Highlight newer BLT resources available to you for successful program delivery

Agents, educators, specialists and others involved with the Better Living for Texans Program are invited to participate.
